Library Instruction

describes what library instruction is and why faculty should consider having this as part of their classes

Library Instruction Program at South Mountain

Our library instruction program improves students’ ability to use library collections and services effectively, and includes instruction in the use of the full range of information and knowledge resources.  Standards and guidelines for information literacy are outlined in the Association of College and Research Library Guidelines.

We encourage all South Mountain faculty to meet with your assigned librarian within your Field of Interest to work and develop research guides that support your curriculum.  These can be integrated within your Canvas course shells and are specific to the classes you teach and the assignments you give.

As a matter of best practices, faculty can request library instruction a maximum of two class periods per class section, per semester.
