Intro to the library Scavenger Hunt Information

This is to assist new students toward completing their library scavenger hunt assignment.

Library Staff

Where to begin? Use the library staff to help you out!

We can direct you to resources, print and electronic, to help you with your research.

For example, we can help you find an item, put an item on hold from another library, navigate our databases, check your library account, or make an appointment with a librarian.

Course Reserves

The South Mountain Community Library does not purchase textbooks.  However, your professor may place an item in course reserves for you to check out.  Unless indicated otherwise, all items are checked out for 2 hours, in-house only.

Course reserves are located behind the Reference desk on the second floor.  These items are first come, first serve.  To check out, you will need to present your MEID card.

Speciality Collections

We offer specialized collections for your academic success.

  • Biographies: Books about people from past and present organized by name on the second floor.
  • College Depot: A collection of resources to help students find scholarships and compare colleges on the first floor.
  • The Foundations Collection: Books specifically designed to meet all levels of academic abilities
  • Newbery and Caldecott award-winning books
  • Pro/Con: These books cover both sides of controversial issues
  • Storytelling: This collection holds fairy tales, folklore, and tall tales used mainly by SMCC's Storytelling Institute.
  • Testbooks: Books to help students prepare for standardized tests such as the ASVAB, GRE, SAT, and many more.
